Corporations tend to hire young talent. But how has this shaped different sectors of the economy – and what do people think about it?

In the technology world, we know everyone has an opinion. You can just take watershed moments like the introduction of algorithmic feeds instead of chronological, and the impacts this had in culture and public discourse, internet life and social welbeing, as a matter of Public Health. And it’s not an exaggeration: the exacerbation of a certain kind of search triggers another entire list of suggestions, and you end up with a content offering that shows what you configured for yourself, but at the same time, most of it is what the platform (just pick one) was tracking about your behavior.

But who’s got the most experience to deal with this kind of phenomenon? Is it really a good idea to ask a 60 year old IT expert to configure the code that drivess the algorithm, or would we be better off if people working on those products, massively used by the youth, were represented by someone who understood what the newer generations want and need? That enters controversial zones: where does parenting vanish and teaching (and class attending, in parallel with social interaction) become the most energy consuming task for the people involved? What about the curriculum? Can we say it’s appropriate? And how did we come to these conclusions, if not by monitoring data and treating linguistic input as the source of our procedural actions, or rather, remediation operations?

A senior teacher doesn’t have a problem with listening to feedback and learning more, but the lack of patience for seeing little kids try to tell us what to say in English, for example, while they invade our own personal space (which, I believe, is basically crime evidence; but I’m not willing to die on that hill — whatever), is ubiquous. Teachers are not just people who spot errors easily, but the people involved in studying communication have been slowly moving towards a more AI-centered approach that brings conceptual knowledge closer to technical literacy and execution precision in niches like system security, compliance, device management, authentication, screen sharing, the GDPR, copyright and a whole list of items that are suddenly part of the organization’s framework of liability. An undergraduate student looking for a first job has no idea of anything that carries responsibility, if not at all, at least in the corporate sector, in this area — if they decide to study Education.

So when you see people doing marketing for Education companies, think about what’s at stake: a good reputation with the cool kids or a serious proposal that will enable young talent to thrive in business, whatever they choose as a path: the engineering major who ends up in a fintech and learns about regulatory practice on the go, the biologist who presses on climate issues on the internet for the sake of strategy, the lawyer who advocates for the end of exploratory work shifts, the manager who makes it easier for people to buy a car in order to work in the gig economy, and so many others.

What matters is that we learn to balance whatever we’re taking in from the online world and put it so practical use. If we were completely lost on values, we wouldn’t have one of the most vibrant content creation landscapes in the world. Whether Brazilians realize that the world often looks into our social issues to get clues of where to go next, it’s unknown. But with disputes over the merits of our jurisdiction, as reported by CNN Brasil, where almost 65% disapproves lawmakers and judges in our country, it’s a poignant case to study the subject matter of the little videos you’re making with aims to go viral — before we either collapse and surrender to a scenario where we can’t say what we think, and AI dictates what is true or false, or we fall short of arguments to defend how we speak publicly and deal with our personal lives. For the people who want to make a solid career in the business sector, these are worth taking a look at, with transparency and honesty.
